FRESHWATER STINGRAY LARGEST IN THE WORLD

A giant stingray stingray species captured in Thailand is claimed to be the largest freshwater fish. Why not, it weighs just 450 kg or estimated at nearly half a ton.
Wide expanse of his body about 2 meters long and 2.1 meters. When found, tail no. If including the tail, stingrays estimated total length of it is about 5 meters.

The fish was arrested on January 28, 2009 in an expedition conducted by National Geographic in Thailand. Arrest led biologists from the University of Nevada, Zeb Hogan. The expedition is part of a project search giant fish Megafishes Project to document the 20 largest freshwater fish in the world.
This giant stingray discovery provides new hope for Hogan and his team even exceed previous estimates. This could put a giant stingray in the top position of Megafishes Project.

"To be honest, we do not know how much weight this stingray. But obviously, this giant stingray fish could potentially be the toughest clean water, "said Hogan, who was a National Geographic Emerging Explorer.

Stingray population in Thailand is considered to be extinct, although the discovery of several new populations started to increase lately. International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has now put freshwater stingrays in the list of endangered animals.
Before the discovery of the largest giant stingrays, Hogan previously found a stingray with a length of 14 feet or about 4.3 meters near Chachoengsao, Thailand near the city.
