Phallostethus cuulong, FISH HEAD IN SEX WITH TOOLS




FISHWORLDs.com - Phallostethus cuulong is one of the strangest fish there are in the region of Southeast Asia. Stud only 2 cm long fish have genitals on the head.

Phallostethus cuulong is one kind of fish priapium, named after the ancient Greek god of fertility, Priapius. These fish entered in the family Phallostethidae

The species was discovered in 2009 by Koichi Shibukawa Nagao Natural Environment Foundation of Japan in the Mekong River, Vietnam.

Cuulong Phallostethus male genitalia is not a penis, but priapium. This tool is actually a tubular muscle which is a modification of the chest and pelvic fins.

Priapium has 2 parts. Near the end, there is a similar part serrated saws, called ctenactinium. At the front, there is a rod-shaped piece called toxactinium.

Nobody's ever seen this fish mating. However, the male genitalia allegedly used to hold the female during mating before finally transferring sperm.
