Arwana



Asian arowana (Scleropages formosus), is a species of freshwater fish of Southeast Asia. This fish has a long body; anal fin is located far behind the body. Asian Arowana generally have a silvery color. Asian Arowana are also called "Dragon Fish" because it is often linked with the dragons of Chinese mythology.

Asian Arowana are native to rivers in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia. There are four varieties of color that is on site:

Green, found in Indonesia, Vietnam, Burma, Thailand, and Malaysia
Gold with a red tail, discovered in Indonesia
Gold, found in Malaysia
Red, found in Indonesia

Asian Arowana are listed in the list of endangered species that are "endangered" by the IUCN in 2004. Number of these species are declining due to frequent trading due to the high value as aquarium fish, especially by the people of Asia. Followers of Feng Shui can pay a high price for these fish.

Osteoglossidae or arowana fish is family. They belong Osteoglossiformes. They come in South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. Arowana life is generally slow moving and stagnant water and prey on fish, insects and shrimp. They mouthbrooders: reproduction performed by incubating eggs at the mouth of the parents.
